EDS CONFERENCE 2018
Where The Cellulose Materials Doctoral Students Meet in 2018?
After visiting Finland, Sweeden, France and Austria, this year (2018) cellulose materials doctoral students will meet in Bratislava – home of the Slovak University of Technology, which has acquired the privilege to organize this event.
The EDS – European Doctoral Students – “summer” conference 2018 on cellulose materials, will this year be held in Slovakia in September 4th to 6th, 2018 (id est two nights).
The event is open to all PhD students involved with Pulp&Paper related research, and an excellent opportunity to meet with other PhD students from Slovakia, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Germany, France, Austria, Slovenia, Czech Republic, the Netherlands and others.
The conference will take place at Slovak University of Technology, a Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology and with Slovak University of Technology as host.
The conference fee – 230,-EURO – covers the whole conference, except the individual travel to and from Bratislava.
There is a different agenda every year – the scientific program will be organized by Assoc. prof. Radko Tino, and will be available on the conference website in May – June 2018 – but besides this, all participating graduate students are expected to give a presentation of their own work. The preliminary schedule is already listed, but the final version will be announced on the end of June 2018.

By bus: Train and Bus schedule – Slovak and Czech operators
By car:
Bratislava lies on the border of two other countries and has a relatively good road system. The town can be accessed by motorways (i.e. limited access highway) from northern Slovakia and Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary as well as Austria. As a result, you can pass the town without having to leave the motorway at all. Similar as in Austria or Czech Republic it’s required to have a sticker (vignette) on your windshield to drive on motorways. Stickers can be bought at any regular gas station – it’s recommended to stop at the first gas station after crossing the border. Cheapest vignette costs €10 and it is valid for 10 days. After entering the city, a parking information system is in place to lead you to the next free parking spot.
Hotel & Restaurant
Conference participants will be accommodated in the Hotel Akademik (professors) located at the Vazovova 1 street in Bratislava. Students will be accommodated in Youth hostel Jura Hronca, located on Bernolakova street no.1. The hotel and also hostel can be reached by bus number X13 operating from the Bratislava main railway station (don’t forget to staple a 15min ticket inside the tram). Get out on the “Kolarovo Namestie” stop and take a 10 minutes walk to the hotel/hostel. Alternatively, at the railway station take trolleybus 201 to “Racianske myto” and change to trams 5, 7, 11 heading to “Florianske namestie” (in this case you need a 60min ticket since you will use two lines). When traveling via the Petrzalka railway station, take bus no. 94 to the “Vazovova” stop.
